Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield
Food is a basic necessity of human life. Most of us take it for granted. However, there are many in our community who cannot shop and/or prepare a meal for themselves due to age, infirmity or because they are recuperating from an accident or illness. Our mission is to fill this need.
Most Meals on Wheels programs are government affiliated and they contract with local hospital or nursing home kitchens for the meals they deliver. In contrast, we rely on over 120 enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who work in our very own kitchen three days a week to plan, prepare and deliver enough meals for every day of the year, if needed.
As a non-profit organization receiving no federal or state aid for our expenses we are not bound by government constraints. We have no quotas, age requirements or waiting lists for our services and are committed to keeping it that way. While we do charge our clients a nominal fee for their meals, the vast majority of our funding comes from individual donations, local businesses, civic organizations, trusts and foundations. We are very grateful for all who make our organization so successful.
Since 1972 we have been fulfilling our mission, “To provide nourishing meals to those needing assistance.” As with so many non-profit organizations, our work is a labor of love that relies on many hands and generous hearts.
